Launching this Website
Welcome to my new website!
As an emerging writer in 2021, it was a big step to launch the original version. Nearly three years later much has changed. Inanna Publications produced the (M)othering anthology, and I received grants from the Alberta Federations of the Arts and Calgary Arts Development to write two books. (See Currently Writing, to learn about BREADCRUMBS and IT’S A FINE LINE.) It was time to update the website to reflect who my writing is for: people whose quest for living true sees them exploring the stories, people and places they encounter.
I hope you enjoy the new website and, if we are traveling a road taking us on a similar journey, that you will check out my newsletter!
Here is the 2021 post of the original website launch:
A writer needs a website, and I am a writer, SO, here we go. Launching this website is a big deal, bigger than I’d thought. I have hesitated to say, succinctly, here is who I am, what I am about, what I write. It is an I AM act. As I work the threads of the stories that are bigger than I am, it feels bold and assuming to publicly talk “About Heidi” and to share what I think is important about living and speaking our stories well. And so, while this website has been a long time coming, I needed to think it through before going live.
This launch is a nod to all the people who've been the banks of the river for me. I often return to the river metaphor because when I’m kayaking, I get a sense of what’s at stake when it comes to journeying well. Wild and dangerous sometimes. Life-giving and beautiful. Thank you to my family, to the women of Servants Anonymous Society (now called RESET) and The Shoe Project, and to adult learners who braved Humanities 101 and Never Too Late.
Now, here we are — I am excited to launch the site. Stay tuned for updates about all things (M)othering, and about projects in the works about children and resilience and cows and dirt-bikes...about beauty. About memorial services and graveside services unattended except by the words of Rilke and Mary Oliver. See you there.
